A national value retailer had a problem hiding in plain sight. Their dry-erase whiteboard display was underperforming, and not because of the product itself.
The structure of the display was disorganized and difficult to shop, with whiteboards slipping, toppling and wasting space no matter how they were arranged. Simply put, the planogram couldn’t withstand real-world customer interaction.
To make things more complicated, any new solution had to fit within a tight counter footprint mirroring the size and shape of a display fixture already in place.
That’s when the retailer turned to Kinter for a product solution.
Dry-erase boards, especially when offered in multiple sizes, can be challenging to display. The retailer was frustrated with specific frustrations and limitations.
From the outset, the project called for innovation and precision. The client needed a counter dry-erase display that:
Nothing off-the-shelf would meet these demands. The available displays on the market lacked the stability, fit, and tiered visibility the retailer needed. Adapting an existing fixture would only lead to more compromises, not results. To deliver a new whiteboard display matching the footprint exactly, which could also stand up to daily in-store use required a custom engineered solution.
The Kinter Kreations team began by reviewing the planogram and space constraints provided by the retailer. With the final dimensions in hand, the engineering team considered several potential display forms that could attractively display the product and meet all project requirements.
Ultimately, the design team produced two prototypes using clear PETG. These samples were tested for board fit, tier spacing, and strength.
The final display featured a clean, two-tier design constructed from clear PETG. The transparency of the material allowed for maximum product visibility, while its strength ensured the display could handle frequent customer interaction.
Most importantly, the unit fits flush against its back-to-back fixture twin, preserving the flow and consistency of the store layout.
The new whiteboard display shipped to 250 stores nationwide. As part of a larger consolidation project, the display unit arrived preassembled with other display hardware, reducing freight costs and in-store setup time.
In stores, the difference was immediate.
Customers could view every size without needing to dig or disorganize the attractive display. Additionally, there was no more wasted space, and the dry-erase board section fit into the existing footprint as desired.
